Focus: Food loss & waste reduction

Finally 41 participants from 17 countries (among them 13 G20-States), from FAO, OECD and EU-Commission and as stockholder of the civil society IWE World Food Institute, Berlin were welcomed, to the initial MACS-G20 workshop related to food loss & waste reduction in Berlin.

MACS is organised by leading sciensts of G20 – States to coordinate scientific programs on G20-level. Wilfried Bommert presented aspects of „Future Food Systems towards Zero Waste“. He showed how civil society builds an new food system in Germany and in other places around the world.

Embedded into inspiring keynote presentations the conference worked out information related to success stories, considerable barriers, upcoming challenges as well as transferability to other countries. This comprehensive stocktaking will provide the basis for further systematic steps within the MACS-G20 initiative. Beside further cooperation within G20 member states they also included considerations about responsibility of G20 for food loss & waste reduction in third countries and options for respective support and interaction.
